Several of the 2020 sports events and seasons have been postponed or cancelled. For some, new dates have already been released. Other events have simply been cancelled or suspended. As soon as more is known about what 2021 will hold, we expect more dates to be released.
Here are some of the events that we know are taking place in 2021 (so far):
2021 Australian Open
This popular and international event will take place from 18 January to 31 January 2021 in Australia. This event seems to be set to happen despite the French Open of 2020 being postponed to October 2020.
2021 ISA World Surfing Games
The World Surfing Games was postponed from May 2020 to take place during May 2021. It is unclear whether spectators will be allowed.
2021 PGA Championship (Grand Slam #2)
The PGA golf tournament will take place from 20 May to 23 May 2021. Some golf events for 2020 were cancelled and others were played without any spectators.
2021 French Open
After the 2020 tournament was postponed, it seems that the 2021 event will still happen on its regularly scheduled dates.
UEFA Euro 2020
This association football event was postponed from 2020. Its original date was meant to be 12 June to 12 July 2020. It is now taking place from 11 June to 11 July 2021.
2021 Wimbledon Championships
Wimbledon will be taking place as normal in London from 28 June to 11 July 2021.
2020 Summer Olympics
The 2020 Summer Olympics was postponed due to the coronavirus. It will now take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.
2021 World Athletics Championships
Originally planned for 15 to 24 July 2020, the championships will now take place from 6 to 15 August 2021. It is scheduled to happen in the United States.
2020 Summer Paralympics
The Paralympics were also postponed together with the Olympics. It will now take place from 24 August to 5 September 2021.
These are only highlights. Many of the annual events are scheduled as usual and have not been affected. It is also still unknown whether all events will be allowing spectators.
